Abstract
PACR of a project (3/86-11/87) implemented by CARE to provide emergency drought relief in North Kordofan Province in Sudan by rehabilitating water points. All planned outputs were successfully accomplished. The project rehabilitated 13 wateryards, 11 boreholes, and 9 hand-dug wells; drilled 3 new boreholes; constructed 8 hand-dug wells; and renovated 3 hafirs. CARE also provided two complementary extension programs. The first instructed village committees on water-related topics including health implications, sanitation, up-keep, and management. The second program established pump repair workshops in select villages. The extension component substantially improved beneficiaries' standard of living.
